Governor Sam Brownback signed a controversial tax-cutting bill into law today (TUE). The Republican governor said he was confident that reducing income taxes and eliminating some business taxes will create jobs and stimulate the Kansas economy.
But Democrats and moderate Republicans say the bill will lead the state into a deep budget hole. They fear it will force cuts in public education and in programs for poor, elderly and disabled Kansans.
Brownback calls their criticism of the bill “unfounded.”
