The state of Kansas is working on a new way to determine who is eligible for Medicaid and other assistance programs. A company will develop a new eligibility system for medical, food and cash assistance programs. Applications will be submitted electronically, and the system will double-check the information. Andy Allison, with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, says the new process will be faster and more efficient.
The system will cost around $85 million to develop. The federal government will pay for around 90 percent of the cost. The new system is slated to go online in 2013.
