KS Lawmakers Continue Budget Talks

There's still no budget agreement in Topeka. State lawmakers resumed negotiations on a state spending plan this (MON) morning, but no progress was made. Budget negotiators from the House and Senate met for just 10 minutes, with neither side offering a proposal. Marc Rhoades, a Newton Republican, is the lead House negotiator. He says the House has made the last two offers, which were rejected by the Senate.

Senate negotiators said the most recent offers were steps backwards and moved the chambers farther apart. The disagreement is over how much money the state should have left in reserve at the end of next fiscal year. Lawmakers are slated to continue meeting this (MON) afternoon.
