Veterans, Newcomers Among Book Award Finalists

National Book Award finalists, announced Wednesday in Philadelphia, include well-known authors such as Christopher Hitchens and Edwidge Danticat in the nonfiction category, and Denis Johnson in the fiction category for his novel Tree of Smoke.

But several debut authors also made the list.

Winners will be named in mid-November in New York City.
