Fatal New York Limo Accident Raises Safety Questions in Kansas, Other States

Authorities in New York say the limousine involved in that weekend accident had recently failed an inspection and was not supposed to be on the road.  Saturday's crash in upstate New York killed 20 people.  The accident is raising questions in other states about safety, seatbelts and inspections.  Here in Kansas, any vehicle that carries 10 or more passengers is NOT required to make sure passengers are wearing seat belts.

That's Kansas Highway Patrol Public Resource Officer Trooper Ben Gardner.  He also says vehicles like limousines only have to undergo an inspection in Kansas if they are commercial vehicles with a D-O-T or Motor Carrier number.

Gardner says someone using a limo in Kansas for personal use would not be subject to an inspection before hitting the road.
