Americans are eating more eggs, and other countries want to increase the number of eggs they import from the U-S.  And that means prices are likely to rise.  Harvest Public Media’s Amy Mayer explains.

Cost of Eggs Likely to Increase as Demand Spikes

The U-S Department of Agriculture expects the price of a dozen eggs to be higher in the first few months of 2018 than it was a year earlier.  Several factors are at play in the industry, which was ravaged by a bird flu outbreak two years ago.  Iowa State University professor Hongwei Xin (HONG-way SHIN) directs the Egg Industry Center. He says that, for starters, people are eating more eggs.

Plus, Xin (shin) says, several countries are importing more U-S eggs due to bird flu outbreaks this year. He expects egg prices to come down by late spring.
