Dry Kansas Winter Leads to State-Wide Drought
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Weather officials say a dry winter has left much of Kansas back in the grip of some level of drought. Recent data from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows that nearly 75 percent of Kansas was experiencing some drought at the end of March. The Wichita Eagle reports that compares with barely 2 percent just three months ago. Only northern sections of Kansas and eastern sections south of Kansas City are not in some form of drought.

Kansas Lawmakers to Discuss Marijuana Bills
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas lawmakers plan to discuss two marijuana bills when the Legislature reconvenes April 27th. The GOP-dominated legislature is considering ways to lessen the impact of marijuana offenses on the state's prison population and offer medical hemp treatment to some patients.

Arson Suspected in Lawrence House Fire
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ Investigators say they believe a Lawrence house fire that killed a man was purposely set. The Journal-World reports that Fernando Alvarez's body was found inside his home after the fire early Wednesday. The cause of Alvarez's death was not immediately disclosed.

Massage Parlor Sting Leads to Conviction
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Sentencing will be this summer for a Wichita man convicted of federal prostitution-related charges connected to a sting operation targeting massage parlors. A federal jury has convicted 51-year-old Kay Tee of Wichita of one count each of attempting to entice a person to cross state lines to engage in prostitution, using a telephone in furtherance of prostitution and money laundering.
