The Lawrence City Commission wants to hear from the public about the prospect of building a new police headquarters. The city will hold two listening sessions this month to solict feedback from residents. A proposal to increase the local sales tax to fund a new police center was defeated by voters last November. City officials want to find out why - and what the city can do better going forward, because the commission is still hoping to get a new police headquarters off the ground. Mayor Mike Amyx said, "The need still exists for new headquarters for the Lawrence Police Department (and) we want to gather with the community and discuss what we have right and what we could have done better."
The listening sessions are set for Wednesday, January 14 at 6:30pm at City Hall and
Thursday, January 29 at the Lawrence Arts Center, also at 6:30pm.
