Jenifer Bowen (BOH-en), with the National Weather Service in Topeka, says the area has been seeing temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees above normal for this time of year. She says a high pressure area stalled over Kansas has kept out cooler air from the north.
Some areas have seen record-breaking temperatures. Bowen says on Sunday the heat set a new record in Topeka at 104 degrees. But there's and end in sight -- there's a chance of rain tonight (WED) and tomorrow (THUR), and forecast highs for Friday are in the 70s.
