Former Regent Questions Funding for New KU Stem Cell Center
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A former chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents says $2 million earmarked for a stem cell center at KU Medical Center could have been used to offset some of the Legislature's $66 million in cuts to higher education. Regent Ed McKetchnie of Arcadia says stem cell research is good, but maybe now isn't the time to spend money on a new center while the state is making large spending cuts everywhere else.

FEMA Okays Safe Room Shelter at Dodge City College
DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) — Dodge City Community College Foundation has gotten the green light from a federal agency to develop a community safe room project. The Dodge City Globe reports the foundation received a letter approving the project this week from the Kansas Division of Emergency Management.

Crayola Announces New Recycling Program
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Crayola has announced a new program for recycling its plastic markers, a move that comes about a year after a group of schoolchildren petitioned the crayon maker to start such a program. Crayola is a subsidiary of Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards.
