A Kansas corn crop, baked and dried by the relentless summer heat and drought of 2012. Despite a few green stalks of corn here and there, this field is likely a total loss. (Photo by J. Schafer)
Hot and dry conditions have spread across a wide section of the country during the past few weeks. But for the past few months, the drought has been plaguing the Arkansas (ARE-kansas) River Basin -- torching crops, depressing tourism and threatening municipal water supplies. In this report from Harvest Public Media, Frank Morris takes a tour of drought country. He begins at the headwaters of the Arkansas (ARE-kansas) River, high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and follows the river across the sun-baked Kansas prairie.
