Rumsfeld KC Appearance Disrupted by Protesters

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) — A 10-minute protest temporarily disrupted an appearance by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld at the Truman Library and Museum in Independence. Rumsfeld spoke yesterday afternoon in the library's auditorium as part of a book tour for his memoir, "Known and Unknown", where protesters called him a "war criminal". Rumsfeld spoke earlier yesterday to officers at the Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.


Brownback Not Interested in Keeping KU-Missouri Rivalry Alive

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) —Governor Sam Brownback says he has no interest in keeping KU's rivalry with Missouri alive when the Tigers leave the Big 12 for the Southeastern Conference next year. Brownback told reporters yesterday on the eve of the last scheduled men's basketball game between the Jayhawks and Tigers that Missouri is to blame for ending the rivalry after 100-plus years.


Brownback Defends Redistricting Involvement

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Governor Sam Brownback is defending his involvement in the Kansas Legislature's debate over redistricting, saying he wants to influence proposals now rather than being forced to consider a veto later. Brownback pointed out yesterday that he'll have to sign off on plans for redrawing congressional and legislative districts to become law.


Santorum Opens Kansas Headquarters in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Aides to Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum have officially opened his Kansas campaign headquarters in downtown Wichita. A Kansas kickoff rally for the former Pennsylvania Senator will be held today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wichita headquarters at 155 N. Market in Suite 110. Kansas' Republican presidential caucuses are March 10th.
