Winter Storm Blows into Western Kansas
GOODLAND, Kan. (AP) — A winter storm has weakened as it moves into Kansas, but a 17-mile stretch of westbound Interstate 70 has been closed in the state's northwestern corner. The Kansas Department of Transportation shut the westbound lanes from Goodland to the Colorado border yesterday afternoon mainly because motels were filling up. The storm also cancelled 600 flights yesterday at Denver International Airport.

House Speaker Urges Caution with Cedar Crest Investigation
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Legislature's most powerful member is advising individual lawmakers not to respond immediately to a prosecutor investigating meetings with Governor Sam Brownback at his official residence. Republican House Speaker Mike O'Neal expressed frustration with Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor, who is a Democrat. But the lawmaker from Hutchinson says he's willing to cooperate with reasonable requests for information.

Army Chief Speaks on Military Cuts
FORT RILEY, Kan. (AP) — Army Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno says the military's investment in installations and the condition of training facilities will influence how the military makes force cuts. Speaking to reporters at Fort Riley yesterday, Odierno says the Army has made no decisions about which units will be cut beyond two brigades in Europe.

New Trial Ordered in Molestation Case
BUHLER, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Court of Appeals has ordered a new trial for a former high school debate coach convicted of sexually molesting a South Korean exchange student who was living in the man's home. Seventy-year-old Richard Young of Buhler was sentenced to more than 13 years in prison this week after being convicted in 2008.

Parents of Missing Baby Appear on Dr. Phil Show
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The parents of a Kansas City baby missing since October have appeared on the "Doctor Phil Show" to plead for her safe return. Lisa Irwin was 10 months old when her parents, Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, reported her disappearance in early October. Both told Dr. Phil during yesterday's taping that they had nothing to do with the girl's disappearance.
