What is First File and Why Do I Need One?

In crisis-situations, seconds can mean the difference between life and death. When first responders arrive on the scene, they must quickly assess the patient. But oftentimes, there's little information to go on. First File is trying to change that. A First File is a blue folder that contains all of your medical information... and having one in an emergency just might save your life.

That's April Hazen, the founder and executive director of First File, a Topeka-based company that produces the blue magnetic folder you can place on your refrigerator. KPR's J. Schafer spoke to Hazen about her company and its efforts to put a First File in every home.

That's April Hazen, the founder and executive director of First File, a Topeka-based non-profit. She was speaking with KPR's J. Schafer. To learn more about First File for your home and car, and to find out where you can get your own First File for free, visit FirstFile.org.

This interview was produced in part by KPR News Intern Taylor Smith, a junior from Salina, studying news and information at the University of Kansas.
