Siemens officials say uncertainty about a federal tax credit has slowed new wind power development, so they’re selling fewer wind turbines. The credit helps pay for installing wind turbines, and it’s set to expire at the end of this year. The company also says more natural gas power plants and the economy have slowed sales. The Hutchinson plant builds nacelles, the part of a wind turbine containing the generator and other components. About half the employees in Hutch will lose their jobs. Siemens is laying off more than 600 people nationwide.
