Rumsfeld Speaks in Lawrence, Says Outcome of Arab Spring Uncertain

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld says it’s too early to know the outcome of the so-called Arab Spring in the Middle East. Protests starting in early 2011 resulted in the ousting of several governments in the region. Rumsfeld told a crowd at the Dole Institute that there are a range of people with varied political ideologies working in those countries. He says some are working for freedom in politics and the economy, while others are pushing for more repressive governments.

Rumsfeld spoke on the University of Kansas campus as part of a book tour.
