Occupy Kansas City Cleared Out

Police have cleared out the Occupy Kansas City tent camp that went up in October in Penn Valley Park near the Liberty Memorial.  Officers brought a SWAT team to yesterday's (FRI) eviction, but the removal was peaceful and no force was used.  Several tents had been on the land across from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, with protesters holding vigils as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Split Topeka Redistricting Plan Fails

The Kansas Senate has killed a redistricting bill that splits Topeka between two congressional districts.  The vote yesterday (FRI) was 24-14.  It came only a day after the House had approved the measure.  The Senate passed its own plan last month, but it died in the House.

State Budget Agreement Falls Apart

An agreement among Kansas legislators over a proposed $14.1 billion state budget has unraveled.  House negotiators backed away from the compromise spending plan shortly before their chamber was supposed to vote on it yesterday (FRI).  Lawmakers are expected to return to the issue after the spring break on April 25th.
