Precautionary Measures Urged When Working Around Power Lines

Summer is a time of year when many people tackle repair projects around the home. While just about everyone has heard the warnings about overexertion, heatstroke and heat exhaustion, safety experts are also issuing another piece of advice. John Drengenberg is with Underwriters Laboratories, and says that when outdoor projects require a ladder, it's best to avoid using one made of aluminum...especially if working around high-voltage power lines.

Underwriters Laboratories also cautions do-it-yourselfers to pay attention to ladder length, saying that many ladder accidents are the result of using a ladder that is too short. For more safety tips, visit www.ul.com
