Energy Program Rankles Some

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Some customers say they are annoyed by a Kansas City Power and Light program that compares their homes' energy efficiency with their neighbors' energy use. The Kansas City Star reports a utility official says critics of the Home Energy Report pilot program are a vocal minority and most customers are happy with the reports they get.

Federal Meal Program Gets New Guidelines

 KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ A federal program that feeds millions of low-income children may be overhauled for the first time in almost 50 years to make the meals healthier and reduce obesity. About 3.8 million young children are fed daily through the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which primarily reimburses day-care providers.

Gay Couples Greenlighted for Marriage

 

CINCINNATI (AP) _ The wait to get married in their home state is ending for same-sex couples in the last U.S. states with bans on such unions. Some couples rushed to marriage license bureaus and even wed Friday within hours of the Supreme Court ruling that said gay couples can marry anywhere in the country including in the 14 remaining states with bans. Steadfast activists who say traditional marriage is defined as a man and a woman vowed to defend the Constitutional rights of religious objectors.

Colorado Summit Unites Regional Conservatives

 

DENVER (AP) _ About 4,000 conservative activists gathered in Denver, Colorado this weekend are wrapping up their meeting Sunday after hearing from six presidential hopefuls. The Western Conservative Summit drew a trio of governors on Saturday _ Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and former Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Royals Win Fourth Game on the Road

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Chris Young bounced back from his worst start of the season to pitch six innings and the Kansas City Royals beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2 Saturday. Kendrys Morales hit a two-run single in the sixth off Scott Kazmir that erased a 2-1 deficit. The Royals won for the fourth time in five games on their road trip. Young allowed four hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out four.
