New Food Safety Rules for Grain Taking Effect

Earlier this month (on January 4th), the Food and Drug Administration unveiled the first batch of its new food safety rules. The rules are part of the Food Safety and Modernization Act, which became law two years ago. While the produce industry got most of the attention, the next batch of proposed rules is expected to include standards for facilities making animal feed. It's a significant change for the industry, as we hear in this report from Harvest Public's Media's Amy Mayer.

The new rules will be subject to a public comment period. Implementation is expected to take several years. For more information on this story, visit the Harvest Public Media website - at HarvestPublicMedia.org.
