National Weather Service Emphasizes Lightning Safety

It's Lightning Safety Awareness Week. National Weather Service meteorologists are trying to impress upon the public the dangers lightning can pose, and are hoping that people will remember the message "When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors."

Matt Anderson is a meteorologist with the Weather Service in Topeka. He says the safest bet is to head for shelter immediately whenever thunder can be heard. 55 people in the United States died last year from lightning strikes.
