Movement Aims to Fight Underage Drinking

Building on a campaign that began at the end of last school year, Topeka-area law enforcement and civic organizations are planning to supply thousands of high school and middle-school students with school-specific lanyards. These lanyards, which can carry a student's identification in addition to some information designed to prevent underaged drinking, will be distributed this fall. Lynn Smith is with the Topeka "Safe Streets" Coalition:

The lanyards will have information about the underage drinking task force Facebook page, as well as the Topeka Crime Stoppers program phone number. Students who want to report underage drinking parties or any other criminal behavior can do so anonymously, and could be eligible for a cash reward.
