More Than 500 Gather to Discuss Lawrence SRS Office Closure

More than 500 people gathered at a meeting last night (MON) to discuss the closing of a Lawrence social service office. The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services has announced they'll close nine offices in the state, including the one in Lawrence. Plymouth Congregational Church Pastor Peter Luckey ("Lucky") called for reversing the decision.

Secretary of SRS Robert Siedlecki (side-leck-ee) has said the office closures are due to budget cuts passed by the Legislature. He says there are other large SRS offices in nearby communities that can offer services to people in the Lawrence area. Tune in later this hour, when we'll have a full report on the plan to close the Lawrence SRS office.
