Lawrence has never had a permanent homeless shelter. That could soon change. Advocates for the homeless are trying to raise money for the Lawrence Community Shelter, but they face a fundraising deadline this month. Guest Commentator Rosy Elmore hopes community members will open their hearts -- and their wallets -- to make the shelter a reality... before time runs out.
Guest Commentator Rosy Elmore is a community volunteer and a former teacher. If you'd like to help, tax-deductible donations can be made online at Lawrence Shelter - DOT -org. Gifts and pledges can also be mailed to the Lawrence Community Shelter.
(The Lawrence Community Shelter faces a Thanksgiving Day deadline to raise the remaining $350,000 in order to qualify for the Maybee Foundation grant.)
