The college town of Lawrence is cracking-down on minors who use fake IDs to purchase alcohol. A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation will allow law enforcement officers to beef-up enforcement efforts. J. Schafer reports.
This past week, police conducted bar checks at seven Lawrence establishments popular with college students. Violations were found at all but two of the locations. Most of the violations -- 30 of them -- happened inside "The Hawk” or in the lines of customers waiting outside. Bullwinkle’s had the second most violations. In all, 43 individuals were cited.
The Fake ID 101 campaign is a joint effort involving the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office, Alcoholic Beverage Control, Lawrence Police Department, University of Kansas Office of Public Safety and DCCCA.
