Independence Healthcare Center Replaces Former Hospital

Two years ago, the southeast Kansas town of Independence was rocked by the closure of its hospital. To fill the void, people there worked with a neighboring town to build something that could serve as a model for other rural communities struggling to keep health care services. Jim McLean from the Kansas News Service traveled to Independence last weekend, as the town celebrated the opening of a new clinic.
