KCI Readies for Busy Thanksgiving Despite CDC Recommendation

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KPR) - Kansas City International Airport is getting ready for its busiest week since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Kansas City Star reports that KCI is expecting to see more than 200 daily flights on Wednesday and over the Thanksgiving weekend.  In a press release issued yesterday (SAT), KCI spokesman Joe McBride said that an esimated 180,000 passengers are expected to travel through KCI between November 20th and December 1st.  That's the busiest the airport will have been since March, but still represents a 55 percent decrease compared to 400,000 who traveled through the airport during the same time last year.  The Centers for Disease Control is strongly recommendation that people not travel this Thanksgiving, saying "postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others this year."

Officers searched throughout the night before arresting the suspect Saturday morning east of Arkansas City. The suspect has been booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Kansas Face Mandate to Get Boost from Media Campaign

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas is preparing to launch a media campaign aimed at getting more of its residents to wear masks so that the coronavirus doesn’t keep spreading rapidly. Some officials are skeptical that it will move the needle much.  A mask mandate from Democratic Governor Laura Kelly is set to take effect Wednesday, but Kansas law allows the state’s 105 counties to opt out. The state has set aside $1.5 million for radio, television, print and social media ads promoting masks that are set to start before Thanksgiving. But some officials worry that politics are driving resistance to masks and others suggest that people already are bombarded with pro-mask messages.
