Two Dead in Car-Semi Crash in North-Central Kansas

BELLEVILLE, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Highway Patrol says two people have been killed in a crash involving a semitrailer in near Belleville in north central Kansas. Station KSN reports that the crash happened Saturday on U.S. Highway 81 just north of U.S. Highway 36. Troopers responded to the crash that involved a car and the semi. No names or other details of the crash were immediately released. The patrol says a stretch of southbound lanes of Highway 31 have been closed as officials investigate. The northbound lanes remain open.

Man Killed in Wichita Carjacking

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Police say a man has been run over and killed and another man arrested in connection to a carjacking report in southeastern Wichita. Police say officers were called to the area early Saturday morning for a report of a carjacking. Arriving officers found a 42-year-old man in critical condition underneath a car in front of a house. He died at the scene. His name has not been released. Police say another man at the scene was questioned and later arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the case. Police say the 40-year-old suspect and the victim knew each other.

19-year-old Arrested in Topeka Double Homicide

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a 19-year-old in a double homicide in Topeka. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Larry Huggins III, of Topeka, was booked Thursday night into the Shawnee County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. Bond is expected to be set at a Friday morning court appearance. He showed up at a hospital Tuesday night with a gunshot wound, three hours after 15-year-old Owen Hughes and 21-year-old Reginald McKinney Jr. were fatally shot. Witnesses told police that they saw people running from the area after the shooting.
