Governor Sam Brownback is thanking law enforcement for thwarting a planned bombing in Garden City. Federal officials allege three men planned to bomb an apartment complex where more than 100 Somalis live.

Brownback noted the work by the FBI in a months-long investigation.

“That stopped what could have been a horrific event. This sort of hate and violence doesn’t have any place in this country, let alone in our state,” says Brownback.

The three suspects from southwest Kansas are charged with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction in connection with the bomb plot. They made their first appearance Monday in federal court in Wichita where they were given court-appointed attorneys.
