Kansas Congresswoman Supports Privatizing Medicare

Kansas Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins says she favors privatizing the Medicare program. A recent report said the federal healthcare program would remain solvent only through 2030 in its current form. Jenkins is joining a majority of House Republicans in pushing to phase in a private voucher-like system to replace government funded healthcare. "The program will ensure the stability of the Medicare trust fund today for our current seniors and ensures that it will be around for generations to come" Jenkins said. Under the Republican proposal, people currently receiving Medicare could keep the coverage, while future recipients would be offered privatized insurance. Most House Democrats says the Medicare program is working well and should stay in place as is.
