Award-winning poet, activist and educator Nikki Giovanni is visiting the University of Kansas and will give a talk tonight (TUE), titled "Poetry: A New Conversation." Dr. Giovanni spoke with KPR's Laura Lorson last week about the role of poetry in society, politics, science and civil discourse:

Nikki Giovanni's appearance at KU is sponsored in part by the Project on the History of Black Writing and the Hall Center for the Humanities. Her lecture takes place at 6 o'clock tonight (TUE) at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union. A book-signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Hall Center website or the Project on the History of Black Writing page
