Accidental Death: Furniture Tip-Over Kills KS Toddler

Police in Herington, Kansas, say a 2-year-old girl died this week after a dresser drawer and TV fell on top of her. The accident happened at her home. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident. Cherie Sage with Safe Kids Kansas says furniture tip-overs caused the deaths of at least 245 children in the first decade of the millennium. Sage says child-proofing furniture is something you'll want to remember when you make your home child-friendly.

Consumer Product Safety Commission data also shows that between the years 2008 and 2010 there were 22,000 injuries of young children associated with product instability. All the victims were less than 9 years old.
