More than 20,000 soccer fans at Livestrong Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas were left disappointed yesterday (SUN). Sporting Kansas City lost, 2-0, to Houston in the Eastern Conference championship...just one game away from reaching the Major League Soccer championship match. Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes (ver-MEESE) had hoped his team could capitalize on its home field advantage. It was Sporting Kansas City's first loss at Livestrong Sporting Park since August 27th. It was only their third loss at home since the stadium opened in June.

It became official yesterday (SUN). This season marks the last in which the University of Missouri will compete in athletics as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Next year, MU will join the Southeastern Conference. Kansas Public Radio's Greg Echlin has more.

The Kansas Board of Regents has announced the creation of a statewide task force on oral health. It’s charged with making recommendations for getting more dentists to set up practices throughout Kansas. Task force member Kevin Robertson says one thing the committee is likely to do is establish a way to educate dentists in Kansas. There’s no way to do that now.Many Kansas dentists get their training at the University of Missouri, Kansas City or U-M-K-C. The 10-member task force is expected to release its findings sometime next year.

N-P-R commentator Nancy Pearl shared her love of reading last night (WED) at the Lawrence Public Library, where she said her local library in Detroit offered her a refuge from her childhood and shaped her career path:Nancy Pearl is the author of several books, including "Book Lust," and "More Book Lust." She will speak at 7:00 tonight (THURS) at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. That event is free and open to the public.
