A lobbist and children's advocate says she has proof Kansas officials are considering selling future payments from a tobacco lawsuit settlement in exchange for immediate cash to shore up the state budget.

Documents obtained by a child advocacy organization show that representatives of a Wall Street firm met with Kansas officials about bonding the state’s tobacco settlement last fall. More from Jim McLean, of the KHI News Service.

Jim McLean, Executive Editor of KHI News Service, oversees the KHI News Service. From 2005 until 2013, McLean coordinated all communications activities at KHI as Vice President for Public Affairs. McLean holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Washburn University.
