The St. Lawrence Catholic Center Choir - Lessons and Carols Service December 7, 2017

The St. Lawrence Choir, directed by Brian Nelson, visited the Kansas Public Radio
Live Performance Studio and performed a preview of their upcoming service of
Lessons and Carols. The service begins at 7 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017,
at the St. Lawrence Catholic Center (1631 Crescent Rd, Lawrence Kansas 66044)

Leonard Slatkin, extended interview

In this extended version of the aired feature, Michael Keelan talks with Detroit Symphony music director Leonard Slatkin about American symphonies, educational efforts for music in the United States, and the recovery of the Detroit Symphony from the 2008 financial crisis and its effects. Slatkin's new book, his second, is titled Leading Tones.

Leonard Slatkin's long and distinguished career includes seven Grammy awards, along with the music directorships of the St. Louis and Washington, D.C. (National) Symphonies, and currently that of the Detroit Symphony. Michael Keelan talked with him about his second book, Leading Tones, in which he discusses music he loves to conduct, influential figures from his past, and how the Detroit Symphony has recovered from economic turmoil.
