Organ Vespers 2017

Sunday, November 26, 2017 - 15:30

First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont, Lawrence, KS

Description: Unique Lawrence Annual Event Opens Holiday Season with “The Joys of Christmas” For two decades, the community of Lawrence has been treated to a concert unlike any other in the region. Concert organist Dr. Tandy Reussner pulls together a program that features the largest pipe organ in Kansas with other instruments and voices and then invites local musicians to participate in the crowd-favorite sounds of the season. This year’s featured musicians include a string quintet consisting of KU graduate students and community members, Paul Epp on trumpet, the Medical Men’s Choir, the Women’s Medical Professional choir, conductor Tracy Ressiguie, and vocalists Liesel and Hannah Reussner. Music will range from the classics, such as that of Rutter and Saint-Saens, to light-hearted fare by the Beach Boys and St. Florin’s Band, plus more. This 1 ½ hour family-friendly program is free, with donations accepted for local organizations that serve the Lawrence community. Each year, more than $3000 is raised through the generosity of the patrons. This year’s beneficiaries will be Family Promise of Douglas County (which houses and supports homeless families), and the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center (serving Lawrence and the surrounding area). The local organization Fresh Start (which provides job training and skills for chronically underemployed women) will also have a booth of their homemade soaps and other products for purchase – items that make great Christmas gifts! For the kids, complimentary milk and cookies will be available at intermission. Doors open at 2:45 pm, and the house fills up quickly. Come early to get good parking and a good seat, and start your season off with joyful music. For more information about this delightful event, check out and on Facebook.
