Description: Iola Family Reading Festival presents…Every Hero Has A Story Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 Iola High School from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm. Free…something for all ages! Author Presentations: Childrens & Teen Authors: Stephen Gilpin Roderick Townley Marc Tyler Nobleman Carol Murray Adult Authors: Michael Graves Ian Michael Spurgeon Mark Eberle Joshua Cotter Comic Book Appraisers: (information found with author bios) Frank Mangiaracina, a comic book store owner in Kansas City, will be appraising comic books during the festival. Brian McTavish will be our keynote speaker on the topic: “Comic Genius: Masterworks of American Graphic Storytelling.” Virtual Reality Expeditions: VR sessions will be every 30 minutes throughout the day. Sign up for session by registration tables. Sessions limited to 10 participants each. Must have an android smartphone and app downloaded to participate. For ages 8 and up. Comic Book Readers’ Theater: presented by ACC Drama Department They will be presenting: Justice League: Their Greatest Triumph Storytimes & Themes: 10:00 – Community Heroes: They are all around us. 11:00 – Superheroes: Masks, capes and super powers. 12:00 – Kid Heroes: Don’t let their size fool you! 1:00 – Unlikely Heroes: Made up of feathers or fur. 2:00 – You Can Be A Hero…in your own way. Make-N-Take crafts: Flying Superheroes Comic Magnets Popsicle Stick Superheroes Superhero Puzzle “Batman & Bill”: The Secret Co-Creator of Batman Documentary Find out the secret identity of this co-creator… Superhero Training Events: Captain America Shield Throw Leap Tall Buildings Like Superman Wonder Woman Lasso Toss Lift with the Strength of the Hulk Throw at the Speed of Flash Superhero Photo Op: Bring your camera and phones! Have your picture taken with Superman, Captain America, Batman and Wonder Woman. Make your own comic scene with speech bubbles and props. Festival Book Store & Book Signing: We will have a festival book store offering books written by our festival authors. Accepting cash, check or credit cards. Books can be signed by the authors in the commons after their presentations. Paw Patrol Characters: Marshall & Chase: Available in the gym to meet the children at the following times… 10:15 – 10:35 am 11:15 – 11:35 am 12:15 – 12:35 pm 1:15 – 1:35 pm 2:15 – 2:35 pm Obstacle Course: This will be constructed by Amanda Belknap’s students in the hallway on the right side of the office. Reading & Community Heroes Exhibitors: We have invited many groups to exhibit at the festival. Iola Reads, The Iola Register, Iola Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, Iola Fire Department, National Guard & others. Punch Cards: (I am attaching a draft of a punch card) Given out at Registration We will have two different punch cards, one for youth and one for adults. Participate in 5-6 or more events and get card “punched” Turn in punch card for prize drawing. Prizes awarded starting at 3:00 pm. Cosplay: If you come in costume, you will have your name entered into the cosplay prize drawing. Prizes awarded starting at 3:00 pm. Raffle Baskets: We have 10 awesome raffle baskets that will be given away. They will be on display at the Iola Public Library and at our booth at Farm City Days, until the November 3rd when they will be displayed and given away at the festival. Some of the themed baskets offered – Movie Night Basket, Batman & Branson Basket, Pioneer Woman Basket, Super Fun & Games Basket, Superhero Basket…and more! Raffle ticket prices: $1 per ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, $10 for 14 tickets. Raffle Basket Drawing – starting at 3:00 pm at the festival. Concessions: Available during the entire event in the commons.
