Description: All are invited to join us on May 11 as we welcome musical guest Effie for a 7:07 front porch concert at Second Presbyterian Church! Check out Effie’s album, Curve My Enthusiasm, on Spotify. In a world gone mad we all search for that guiding light. The bat signal has been received by the eclectic artist known as Effie. She is from Kansas by the way of the boogie down Bronx where the city never sleeps but her roots run deep to La Isla del Encanto. Effie is effortless and effervescent. Her sound has a dexterity and fluidity that brings together her blend of influences that were cultivated by dancing in soul train lines on a Sunday afternoon with the family. Her inspirations span from Miss Education, Ye, Kendrick, Hov, Stevie Wonder with a little Marc Anthony. Her range is limitless which is why she dons the moniker of Eff Curry because she doesn’t miss. Her talent for songwriting has been fueled by her unique perspective and her experiences as a young woman on her journey to self discovery. Her voice conveys the full spectrum of the human condition as her staple sultry voice has a way of welcoming all comers and putting them in a trance as she weaves her stories in through your ears and around your heart and mind. The music speaks volumes but the individual behind the words and melodies has a story to tell and we are all better for listening. -Nelson Arroyo; Writer, Educator Second’s 7:07 front porch concerts are presented free to the community (tips are always appreciated for our musicians!). Attendees are encouraged to bring their own drinks and lawn chairs. We look forward to seeing you at 7:07! COVID-19 Show Policy: There are no restrictions on this show but we encourage face masks when you can not social distance and ask that you stay home if you are feeling sick or have been exposed recently to someone with COVID-19. Formed in 1991 in Germantown, MD, Clutch features Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-Paul Gaster (drums). The band built a local following through constant gigging. After releasing the classic 7” single “Pitchfork,” the band caught the attention of Earache Records. Earache released the legendary Passive Restraints EP. Shortly after the release of Passive Restraints, EastWest Records signed the band. Their debut LP, Transnational Speedway League... , followed in 1993. A self-titled album appeared two years later on Atlantic Records and afforded Clutch their first mainstream exposure, as the label released a trilogy of psychedelic-tinged singles, "Big News," "Spacegrass," and "Escape from the Prison Planet." A lengthy and very successful North American tour with Marilyn Manson put an exclamation point on this early part of Clutch's career. The band jumped to the larger Columbia label for 1998's Elephant Riders . Clutch re-joined the Atlantic ranks in 2001 for their 4th studio album, the six-figure selling Pure Rock Fury. The band enjoyed their first Top 40 single, "Careful With That Mic.” A year later, however, the band was tortured with label problems, and it was three years before the sonically brilliant Blast Tyrant was released by indie label DRT Entertainment. In the meantime, the band had self-released the studio album Jam Room, and their first concert release Live at the Googleplex on their own River Road Records. These two pieces would eventually see the surface through Megaforce Records a few years later. The 36-month period from 2004 to 2007 saw heavy, non-stop touring of North America and England, mainland Europe, the Scandinavian territories, and Australia. The band was now in top playing shape and writing the most challenging material of their career. With a decade of experience behind them, Clutch was now passing or outlasting most of their mid/late 90's contemporaries. Clutch's 7th studio album, 2005's Robot Hive/Exodus (DRT), produced by J. Robbins, was another breakthrough release, showcasing a diversity most rock bands could never dream of pulling off. 2007's From Beale Street to Oblivion took off where RH/E's final track "Gravel Road" left off. A hardened, simple blues approach with power took the former Germantown High School compatriots to the next level. The album’s lead single, "Electric Worry," wasn't just another successful Top 40 rock single, with its anthem-like chorus and high energy guitar jam/drum solo climax making it an instant Clutch classic. All Ages Support acts subject to change All tickets are Reserved Seats Text Blues to 49798 for concert updates Since the release of Kingfish, his Grammy-nominated 2019 Alligator Records debut, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Christone “Kingfish” Ingram has quickly become the defining blues voice of his generation. From his hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi to stages around the world, the now 22-year-old has already headlined two national tours and performed with friends including Vampire Weekend, Jason Isbell and Buddy Guy (with whom he appeared on Austin City Limits). He was interviewed by Sir Elton John on his Apple Music podcast, Rocket Hour, and recently released a duet with Bootsy Collins. In January 2021, Ingram was simultaneously on the covers of both Guitar World and DownBeat magazines, and graced the cover of Living Blues in late 2020. Rolling Stone declared, “Kingfish is one of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince.” In the two years since Kingfish was released, there have been major events that have altered his life both personally and professionally. “There has been much change, happiness and despair in my life,” Ingram says of his last two years. Right as his career was taking off, he lost his mother and biggest champion, the late Princess Pride Ingram. Christone toured for 13 months non-stop, until the pandemic halted live performances and forced him to take stock. As he was thinking about the man he was becoming and the new directions his life was taking, he began writing songs for his next album, 662. The number 662 is the telephone area code for Ingram’s northern Mississippi home, and it first came into use the same year he was born—1999. “The world was introduced to me with Kingfish,” Ingram says of his chart-topping debut. “Now with 662, I want the world to hear and meet a different, more personal side of me.” The album—recorded in Nashville and co-written and produced (as was Kingfish) by Grammy-winner Tom Hambridge—features 13 songs displaying many sides of Ingram’s dynamic personality, as well as his one-of-a-kind guitar and vocal skills. According to Ingram, “662 is a direct reflection of my growth as a musician, a songwriter, a bandleader, and as a young man. This album was written during the pandemic, shortly after I returned home from a whirlwind year and a half of touring and promoting Kingfish. It was an incredible time of change and growth, moments both good and bad, and I am a better and stronger person for it.” 662 is the next chapter in the still-unfolding story of Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. He describes 662 as his own personal journey, a story that sits upon the legacy of his influential blues elders. The songs—reflecting his life in and away from his home in the Delta— speak to universal truths, as well as to similar experiences shared by his large and growing multi-generational, multi-cultural fan base. From the blistering, hometown title track, 662, to the irresistible She Calls Me Kingfish to the slow, soulful and poignant Another Life Goes By to the funky truth-telling Too Young To Remember, 662 overflows with hard-hitting songs, jaw-dropping guitar work and deep, soul-possessed vocals. The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy. The Original Outlaw. The Legend. Born in Akron, Ohio, US, Coe lived a troubled youth, spending much of his time in and out of various youth correctional facilities. Having befriended each other in prison, it is thought that Coe was inspired to pursue a career in music by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, with the pair thought to have written songs together whilst behind bars. Upon release from a prison term, Coe took heed of Hawkins’ advice and travelled to Nashville to begin a career in music, where he caught the attention of Plantation Records, releasing his debut album “Penitentiary Blues” in 1970. Coe became one of the most desired songwriters in the Nashville scene, writing hit songs for artists such as Billie Joe Spears’ 1972 song “Souvenirs and California Mem’rys” and Tanya Tucker’s number one hit in 1973, “Would You Lay With Me (in a field of stone). Despite this success, he had not managed to forge a path with his own career as a solo artist, remaining an underground talent, unable to break into the mainstream charts. Although in 1975, his second record, “Once upon a Rhyme, “ featured the number ten hit of his cover of Steve Goodman’s and John Prine’s “You Never Even Called Me By My Name.” Moving to Key West,Florida, US, Coe independently released two albums, the comedy inspired “Nothing Sacred” (1978) and his controversial “Underground Album” (1982). Coe again enjoyed chart success in the 1980s, with his hit songs “The Ride” (1983) and “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile” (1984). Since the 90s, Coe has being involved in a number of collaborative efforts, most notably “Rebel Meets Rebel,” a joint effort by Coe and Dimebag Darell and his brother Vinnie Paul alongside Rex Brown, a pioneering work fusing country with metal. As a talented songwriter and charismatic performer, Coe has garnered legendary status in the world of country music, alongside his wild tales and behaviour. His lyrics have spurred controversy, featuring frequent profanities, tales of drug use and sexually explicit material, gaining him the title of the ‘outlaw’s outlaw.’ With his throaty baritone and dirty grooves, Coe’s honky-tonk country certainly sounds pretty badass.
