Description: New Morse Code (Hannah Collins, cello; Michael Compitello, percussion) is the confluence of two magnetic personalities who have taken up the admirable task of creating a hub for the performance, commissioning and promotion of new music. New Morse Code is best described as two musicians of extraordinary depth and skill untethered by their instrumental constraints. Their 2017 debut album, Simplicity Itself on New Focus Recordings, was described by icareifyoulisten.com as “an ebullient passage through pieces that each showcase the duo’s clarity of artistic vision and their near-perfect synchronicity,” while Q2 Music called the album “a flag of genuineness raised.” Their projects have received support from Chamber Music America and New Music USA. In 2019, they released the title suite of Matthew Barnson’s portrait album, Vanitas on innova Recordings, and collaborated with Eliza Bagg, Lee Dionne, and andPlay on and all the days were purple, Alex Weiser’s Pulitzer Prize-finalist work on Cantaloupe music. Hannah teaches at the University of Kansas, and Michael teaches at Arizona State University. They currently serve as assistant directors of Avaloch Farm Music Institute, and they were recently named the winners of the 2020 Ariel Avant Impact Performance Prize. All Ages Support acts subject to change A limited number of table reservations are available by calling 316-722-4201 or in person at The Cotillion. COVID-19 Show Policy: There are no restrictions on this show but we encourage face masks when you can not social distance and ask that you stay home if you are feeling sick or have been exposed recently to someone with COVID-19. Since their formation in Massachusetts during 1998, All That Remains have built an undeniable legacy upheld by airtight songcraft, knifepoint precise metallic instrumentation, and stadium-size hard rock hooks. As a result, they’ve outlasted trials, tribula- tions, and trends to stand tall as as one of this century’s most consistent purveyors of heavy music with a bulletproof canon of arena-worthy anthems. All That Remains’ discography is highlighted by success at Active Rock including radio hits in the top 10 such as “Two Weeks,” “What If I Was Nothing,” and their first number one “Stand Up,”. Averaging 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify (an unprecedented feat for a metal band in any era), while cumulative sales eclipse 1 million albums worldwide. Not to mention, they’ve earned five consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart and four in the Top 5. Most recently, 2017’s Madness spawned the smash cover of Garth Brooks’ “The Thunder Rolls,” which trended on VEVO and generated 21 million plus total views and 8 million Spotify streams in under a year’s time. In addition to packing houses as a headliner, they’ve practically burned down festival stages everywhere from Rock on the Range to Welcome to Rockville. In 2018, the quintet—Philip Labonte [lead vocals], Oli Herbert [lead guitar], Mike Martin [rhythm guitar], Jason Costa [drums], and Aaron Patrick [bass, backing vocals]— perfect their patented pummeling by wasting no time or energy at all on their ninth full-length album, Victim of the New Disease [Fearless Records]. — Rick Florino, September 2018 Submitted by: Box Office The Cotillion

To join the program via Zoom, please register at https://ksu.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_SfXonZZlSGeehcrtyf7ErQ Gordon Parks has influenced countless artists to help us understand ourselves and our society in new, empowering ways. Three artists who revere Parks as a mentor will hold a public conversation in McCain Auditorium located at Kansas State University in Manhattan. They are six-time Grammy winning jazz musician and composer Terence Blanchard, University of Texas Dallas multimedia artist Andrew F. Scott, and Academy Award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker Kevin Willmott. Each has a vision for how the arts can function as a tool for making our society more just and equitable. Made possible with major support from the Gordon Parks Foundation, the Weary Family Foundation, the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies and the Creativity Illuminated Fund. Description: Six-time Grammy winner Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective in concert at McCain Auditorium at Kansas State University, with staging by students of K-State and University of Texas, Dallas under the direction of Andrew F. Scott and Matthew Gaynor. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition "Gordon Parks: 'Homeward to the Prairie I Come'" at the Beach Museum of Art. beach.k-state.edu 207 McCain Auditorium, 1501 Goldstein Circle, Manhattan, KS 66506. Tickets are free but required. Obtain tickets beginning March 23, 2022 at the McCain Ticket Office, Wed. – Fri. 12 – 4 p.m. or by phone at 785-532-6428. Tickets are not available online. The title reflects a thoughtful consideration of influences. It combines the title of Terence Blanchard's current album, whose music will be featured during the performance. This album is a loving tribute to Wayne Shorter. It illuminates the challenge, discipline, beauty, and spirituality embodied in Wayne Shorter's life as expressed in his music. Likewise, it testifies to the continued impact that Gordon Park's Life and work have on both society and artists who seek to center social justice, the beauty of humanity, and hope in their work.   Empathy was the superpower at the center of Gordon Park's life and interactions with his subject matter and craft. His ability to see the world critically with humility, grace, and curiosity allowed him to capture the essence of the human experience in all of its facets. Empathizing is the starting point of any design process or creative endeavor. As a collaborative group of musicians, multimedia designers, and art students, we have adopted this attitude as the founding principal, theme, and attitude for this project. The artwork we create is a thoughtful consideration of the subjects and their relationship to each other and the wider society. Using a synectic framework, we hope to bring the work of Gordon Parks and of ourselves as artists into a broader consideration through deep connections that are relevant to our time. More importantly, this project is an example of how creative pedagogy can be advanced when modern technology amplifies empathetic engagement. Made possible with major support from the Gordon Parks Foundation, the Weary Family Foundation, the Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies and the Creativity Illuminated Fund. Support provided by Art Bridges. This event is part of the Beach Museum of Art's 'Art in Motion' annual program series. Submitted by: Jui Mhatre Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art

Megan, Lesley, and Will Haynes of the Watkins Museum will discuss the origins and significance of this unique project: "An oracle deck + guidebook, Prairie Divination turns to the plants, animals, and geological features of the tallgrass prairie ecosystem as a source for knowledge and inspiration for living in this world and to re-align thinking towards kinship and sustainability. How might thinking with plants and animals guide us in navigating an uncertain present--and help to imagine futures? Filled with information for each corresponding card, the illustrated guidebook of essays offers personal guidance and affirmations based on the specific lessons that each plant, animal, and element can teach us." This program is part of Paper Plains Literary Festival and is also in connection with our exhibit "Dear Friends: Lawrence's Literary Societies."
