Description: Tickets on sale now to see Bruce Hornsby at the Stiefel Theatre in Salina, KS, on Thurs., Sept. 22 at 7:30 pm. Based out of Williamsburg, Hornsby first rose to national prominence with The Way It Is, his 1986 Grammy-winning debut album with The Range. The title track became the most-played song on American radio in 1987 while Tupac Shakur's timeless song "Changes" builds on "The Way It Is" and set the stage for many subsequent versions of the track. In 1991 Hornsby collaborated with Bonnie Raitt, playing on her iconic hit "I Can't Make You Love Me." Additionally, Hornsby was a part-time member of the Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992, performing over 100 concerts in America and Europe. The 13-time Grammy nominee has also solidified his status as a highly sought-after collaborator. Hornsby's own 23 albums have sold over 11 million copies worldwide, and he has appeared on over 100 records including releases with Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Nicks, Ricky Skaggs, Bob Seger, Chaka Khan, Bon Iver, Brandon Flowers, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and more. His most recent studio album, 'Flicted, was released this past May.Tickets start at $59 and are available at our box office at Stiefel Theatre, in person at the Box Office at 151 S. Santa Fe or by calling 785-827-1998. Submitted by: Valerie Johnson Stiefel Theatre

Description: September 2022 marks 35 years since the Raven first took flight as Lawrence’s corner bookshop specializing in mysteries—we want to commemorate this major milestone with the community we’ve been a part of for so long now! So we’ve planned a whole month packed to the gills with fantastic and free literary events, like this one! Thanks to the updated and expanded edition of "How to Resist Amazon and Why," you’ll know exactly how to go about joining the economic revolution, from advocating for fair labor practices to supporting your local, independent bookstores. The Raven couldn’t be happier to host the launch for the 2nd full-length edition of the book that was birthed by the majority owner of the store! "How to Resist Amazon and Why" has remained one of the Raven's top weekly sellers for multiple years running. It started its life as an impassioned Tweet thread, and was expanded into a brief but informative pamphlet stocked on the ‘zine spinner in the Raven in 2019. Written by the Raven’s majority owner, Danny Caine, it has been hailed as the start of a David vs. Goliath show-down in the fight against Amazon. Now, three years later, as this former ‘zine reaches its third print iteration, it’s time to recognize the progress we’ve made in supporting local business and economics. Join us for this celebratory launch event—an evening of reading and discussion with Raven owner Danny Caine, culminating in an audience Q&A and the opportunity to get your copies of the revised edition signed by Caine!
