Description: The Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery will host a poetry reading by Lindsborg resident Dr. Linda Lewis on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 2 p.m. She will be debuting selections from her new collection of poetry, Ensemble, published by Spartan Press. A reception and book signing will take place afterward with books available for purchase. Lewis received her PhD in English literature from the University of Nebraska and taught literature and writing at Bethany College from 1987 to 2014. She is now professor emerita. Ensemble takes its title from the company of characters who inhabit its pages: figures from history, myth, literature, the Bible, and popular culture. This is Lewis's first published volume of poetry, although she has written poems for many years. Her previous books have been critical studies of the novelist Charles Dickens and poets John Milton, Dante, Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Blake, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, among others. While a Bethany professor, she was named recipient of several awards for teaching, scholarship, and service to students. Submitted by: Ron Michael Birger Sandzėn Memorial Gallery

Description: In the history of the Big Bands, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is recognized as one of the all-time best swing orchestras in the world. With the collaboration of Paul Weston, Axel Stordahl and Sy Oliver, Tommy Dorsey created superb arrangements for his feverish dance tunes or romantic ballads that remain immortal today. Over the years The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra musicians have been the masters of creating ‘mood’ with their sentimental favorites or the upbeat tempos that got the world dancing. Frank Sinatra’s career literally exploded with the help of Dorsey and in turn, it was Sinatra’s smooth vocals that propelled The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra to a new level of popularity! Frank often admitted that it was Tommy’s music that helped create his famous phrasing and breathing techniques and ultimately influenced his overall musical tastes and knowledge. "Stardust," "Night and Day," "Oh! Look at me Now," and "I’ll Never Smile Again" are only a few of the songs immortalized by the brilliant combination of The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and the iconic Frank Sinatra… And now, this legendary Big Band, led by the superb Terry Myers, will tour the world to honor the magic of this incomparable team. With twenty of the finest musicians and singers ever assembled, this magnificent tribute to Frank Sinatra is a step back in time. Tickets for the event range from $47 to $67.
