Join KPR for a Great Spaces Concert

The Great Spaces Music and Art Series at Grace Cathedral in Topeka and Kansas Public Radio are partnering to present a concert by renowned pianist Christopher Atzinger, 3 p.m., Sunday, April 26.

 

Tickets are $10, $5 for students and 12 and younger get in free. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

 

He’ll be performing a program of classic and modern works:


  • Fantasia on themes from Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, by Johann Hummel
  • Fantasy in F Minor, by Frédéric Chopin
  • The Enchanted Garden, Book 2 by Richard Danielpour   
  • Toccata by Pierre Jalbert

Praised in Gramophone for his “abundant energy, powerful fingers, big sound and natural musicality,” and in the San Francisco Chronicle for his “fervency and panache,” pianist Christopher Atzinger has performed in Austria, Germany, England, Italy, France, Spain, Malta, Ireland, Hungary and Canada in addition to performances throughout the U.S. He has lectured at the Juilliard School and Berklee College of Music, and has given master classes across the U.S. 

 

In addition to degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan, Atzinger earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Prior to his faculty appointment at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., he taught at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.
