Because Darrell Brogdon is sick to death of winter already, this Saturday's Retro Cocktail Hour will be a special all-exotica show, a 2-hour tropical getwaway featuring Polynesian-flavored exotica music, plus background sounds recorded on location outside Hilo, Hawaii.
There's music by exotica greats Les Baxter, Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman, along with contemporary artists like Ixtahuele, the Waitiki 7, the Stolen Idols, Don Tiki and Jimmy Buffett (who is joined by Martin Denny for a concert performance of Quiet Village), plus "live" performances recorded in the '60s and '70s at places like the Kahiki Supper Club, Florida's legendary Tiki Gardens and the Shipwreck Bar. We'll also visit the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland and hear Hawaiian songs by Andy Williams and Bing Crosby, among many others.
Guaranteed to put you in a tropical frame of mind. Your results may vary.
Tune in for the All-Exotica Retro Cocktail Hour on Saturday, February 7, at 7 p.m.
