People Who Should be Famous - August 26, 2011

Q:  The annual Kansas State Fair – which begins next month (September 9) - is an important competitive event for 4-H clubs across the state.  What’s the name of the Kansas 4-H leader who came up with the national 4-H pledge?

A:  Otis Hall

Otis Hall, the State 4-H Leader in Kansas, was responsible for the original wording of the 4-H pledge.  It was officially adopted for the organization at the first National 4-H camp in 1927.  The pledge remained unchanged until 1973, when it was revised to include the phrase "and my world."
