Kansas Connections to TV Shows - March 8, 2013

Q: On the TV series Dallas, there’s a character named Ray Krebs who starts out as a ranch hand working at South Fork. It’s later revealed that Ray Krebs is the illegitimate son of wealthy oil baron Jock Ewing. Where, in Kansas, was Ray Krebs supposedly born?

The original Dallas cast, with Ray Krebs on the far left and Jock Ewing in the middle.

A: Emporia

Actor Steve Kanaly plays the character of Ray Krebs on the TV series Dallas. Ray Krebs, who starts off as a ranch hand at the Ewing family’s South Fork ranch, turns out to be the illegitimate son of Jock Ewing, the patriarch of the Texas oil and cattle family. According to the back story on Krebs, he was born in Emporia, Kan., on October 19, 1945 - the love child of Jock Ewing and an army nurse Jock knew during World War II. Krebs, who appeared in the original run of Dallas, has also made appearances in the new series of Dallas.
