Happy Trails or..."Get Your Kicks" - take your pick! - December 16, 2011

Q: Historic Route 66, the so-called "Main Street of America," runs for only 13 miles through southeast Kansas. If you're "on your way from Chicago to L.A.," what's the only Kansas county you'll drive through on this famous road?

A: Cherokee County

Also known as the Will Rogers Highway and "The Mother Road," historic Route 66 runs from Chicago to Los Angeles. But the shortest section of the romanticized highway travels through the extreme corner of southeast Kansas. Between Joplin, Mo., and Oklahoma City, you'll find a mere 13 miles of Route 66 in Kansas - all of it inside Cherokee County.
