2014 Comes to an End; New Year Beckons

Some cultures ring in the New Year with fireworks; others with firearms. During a holiday break from the radio news business, I got to spend some time target shooting with my brother, brother-in-law and nephew this month. (I was at least the fourth-best shot in our foursome!) I've met a few people over the years who had a stereotyped, perhaps monolithic view of us "public radio people" - and that view didn't include gun-loving, flag-waving, meat-eating Americans like me. But KPR staffers are full of surprises. Some listeners might be surprised to know that KPR has car-enthusiasts, antique lovers, metal music fans, veterans and yes... even vegetarians. : - )

J. Schafer is the News Director of Kansas Public Radio. He’s also the Managing Editor of the Kansas Public Radio Network, which provides news and information to other public radio stations in Kansas and Missouri.
