Virtual Cinema Night Features El Santo & Commando Cody

Cinema a Go-Go is back in August with a superhero theme night! Join us on Friday, August 28, at 7 p.m., for Santo vs. the Blob (1972) and Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe (1953).

This event is free; all we need is your name and email address in this web form, and you will get the exclusive log-in information for the event. Besides this great bad movie, Darrell will have a giveaway* at the end of the first film during intermission. For this night only, we will be giving away a new KPR Coffee Mug. A link to sign up for the giveaway item will be placed in the zoom comment section periodically throughout the movie.

Santo is the star of Killer from Other Worlds, more commonly known as Santo vs. the Blob. International criminals are blackmailing world leaders for $10 million in gold. If not paid, they'll unleash an utterly unconvincing alien blob monster to wreak havoc!

During his lengthy movie career, El Santo came up against almost every kind of monster - Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, zombies, alien invaders, etc. This film marks the first time the Man in the Silver Mask takes on the blob. How do you put a blob in a headlock?

El Santo was cranking out 3-4 films a year at this point in his career, many of them cheaply thrown together in a hurry. This one features a laughable blob monster which is clearly a rubber tarp doused in Vaseline and fake blood with a squad of extras underneath stumbling blindly around set.

Also, we will see an episode of Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe, which began life as a syndicated television series but was released first to theatres as a 12-chapter serial.

In the TV series, Earth is under attack by invaders from Venus, led by the villainous Ruler. It's up to Cody and his pals to save the planet again from attacking spaceships, killer robots and death rays.

This event is free of charge...but we welcome contributions to support Retro Cocktail Hour and all KPR programming by clicking here. If you have any questions, reach out to Bobbi at bwashechek@ku.edu.

This event requires access to a zoom account. You can download zoom here. When you get to that zoom download page, you will select "Zoom client for meetings." Once you have that downloaded, open the app and create your zoom account - that way you'll be ready to go for the movie Friday, August 28!

Thank you to our event sponsor, Dr. Chronister of Healing Smiles of Topeka.
