KPR Live Day Rewind & Virtual Concert

The 3rd Annual KPR Live Day will look a little different this year but will still be jam packed with the local classical music you love to hear. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 16. During Cordelia Brown's Morning Classical from 9 a.m. to Noon and Jeff Watson's Afternoon Classical from Noon to 3 p.m., our hosts will showcase a rewind of Live Day recordings from 2018 and 2019.

At 3 p.m., KPR has a special treat for listeners with a Facebook Live performance from Violinist Destiny Ann Mermagen, the Classical Cowgirl, and her husband cellist Mike Mermagen. The recording from this Facebook Live concert will be rebroadcast on KPR following All Things Considered at 7 p.m. The Mermagens shared that their performance will feature a mix of classical favorites, folk and fiddle, spy jazz tunes, and more.

Destiny Ann Mermagen plays everything from Bach to Barn Burners. As a passionate proponent and grateful product of early music education, Destiny Ann began playing violin in elementary school and continued on to win several awards, placement in elite orchestras, and full scholarships to receive her Master's in Music Education in Washington, D.C. Destiny Ann was quoted in the Washington Post as "endearingly coltish." Fittingly so, she currently plays with her favorite "Horseshoe" bow made by distinguished bowmaker Donald M. Cohen of Alexandria, VA.

Cellist Michael Mermagen (M.M. The Juilliard School, B.M. The Peabody Conservatory of Music) is Professor of Cello at UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. Michael made his debut at the age of 16 with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra after receiving its Young Soloist’s Award. For more than 25 years, Michael has toured and given recitals, concerto performances, master classes and chamber music performances around the world.

This duo has performed all across the globe and are going to put on a free Facebook Live performance just for YOU, our KPR listeners.

We hope you join us for an amazing day of 'live' music on Friday, October 16!
