KPR Welcomes a New Corporate Sponsorship Specialist

Christy Imel joined KPR in May as a Corporate Sponsorship Specialist.

Christy comes to us with a wide variety of experience in business development in both the non-profit and for-profit world. She received her MBA from the KU School of Business, and most recently served as Development Director for Douglas County CASA where she worked with donors and corporate sponsors. Over the course of her career, Christy has gained valuable experience in sales, marketing, promotion and event coordination.

Christy is a great fit for KPR – she is a public radio and classical music fan.

Christy answered a few questions so we could get to know her better.

You join KPR coming from another non-profit. Tell us more about your background there. What made you want to make the switch to radio?

Previously, I was the Development Director for Douglas County CASA. While I loved the mission of CASA, when I saw the opportunity at KPR open up I couldn't pass it up. I have been a longtime listener-member of KPR and to me, this is an opportunity of a lifetime. And the opportunity has not disappointed me yet! I work with the best staff, and I get to do something I love, which is spreading the word about KPR.

What is your favorite show on Kansas Public Radio?

This is really hard for me, but if I had to choose, I would pick classical music. As a classically trained singer and french horn player through college, I love that I can listen to classical music during the day when I am out and about. Morning Edition and All Things Considered are very close runners up though!

You grew up in Lawrence. What do you love about this community?

I love the uniqueness of Lawrence and how everyone is welcome. I meet international students all the time, and they always say how nice everyone is here, and I agree with them! Lawrence has a great vibe to it, and I hope that never changes.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Most of my free time is taken up by my two sons, who are 3 and 1 right now. But when I'm not wrangling them, I love to garden and read, and I'm always looking for my next favorite show on Netflix.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I love to hear from our listeners when I am out talking with potential clients. If you are a proud KPR supporter, let me know if you see me out and about!
